Chief of Pharmacy Named new Associate Director
Dr. Karla Mallo was appointed to the Associate Director position on May 9, 2008. Dr. Mallo is replacing Gary Morton who retired April 4, 2008 after 35 years of service to the VA.
Dr. Mallo graduated from the University of Montana with a Bachelors of Science in Pharmacy and received her Doctorate of Pharmacy from Creighton University in Nebraska. Dr. Mallo has participated in many VA leadership opportunities, including the VISN 19 Leadership Development Institute and currently is a fellow with Sheridan Leadership, a community leadership group.
Sheridan VAMC Honors Four Nurses
On May 6, 2008, Ms. Laura Schmit, R.N., Ms. Cheryl Wieland, R.N., Ms. Rita Patterson, LPN, and Ms. Terry Luegge, N.A., were presented with the VA Secretary’s Award for Excellence in Nursing for 2008. These employees were nominated and selected by their peers for their outstanding qualities and care they provide to our Nation’s Veterans.
Ms. Laura Schmit is the Nurse Manager of the Medical Unit; Ms. Cheryl Weiland, RN on the Medical Unit; Ms. Rita Patterson, LPN on the Medical Unit; Ms. Terry Luegge, is a Nursing Assistant on the Special Needs Unit.
These four are valuable members of the nursing care team at the Sheridan VA Medical Center. Their knowledge and compassion toward our veterans set a benchmark for patient care and it is the VA’s privilege to recognize and honor them for their contributions.
