Extended Care
The Sheridan VAMC offers on-site extended care services for veterans requiring nursing home care or those taking part in the mental health residential programs.
Mountain View Living Center (MVLC)
The MVLC is a 50-bed unit that provides primary, preventive, therapeutic, and rehabilitative services to patients requiring a nursing home level of care. The philosophy of the MVLC emphasizes assisting the chronically ill or disabled veteran to achieve and
maintain the highest degree of self-direction while affirming his/her autonomy and human dignity. The Extended Care Screening Committee reviews referrals for admission. The majority of residents on the unit come from the Sheridan VAMC

Mental Health
The Mental Health Residential (MHR) program has 40 beds and is a multidisciplinary treatment program with four specialty tracks that provide treatment emphasis in those areas where the individual is found to have the most need. These four specialty tracks are Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), Serious Mental Illness (SMI), Co-occurring Disorders, and Substance Abuse (SA). Referrals for these programs primarily come from other VA facilities located within VISN19.
Domiciliary Residential Rehabilitation Treatment Program (DRRTP)
The DRRTP is a 40-bed therapeutic residential facility for homeless veterans. The focus is to provide quality psychosocial services and facilitate recovery in a safe environment. Vocational rehabilitation is a primary component of the program. The program is strength based, and treatment and discharge plans are comprehensive and individualized. Mental Health Clinic
The clinic provides adult and geriatric outpatient mental health services which includes individual consultation and treatment and group activities by a cadre of mental health professionals, including psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, psychology technicians, and registered nurses. Specialized treatment offered through the Mental Health Clinic includes psychological testing, medication management, smoking cessation, diet counseling, and injection clinics. Group therapy for inpatients and outpatients is conducted in the Mental Health Clinic. All veterans seeking treatment in the Mental Health Program are processed through the Mental Health Clinic. Eligibility is established, means test completed, and admissions processed to any of the mental health programs.
• Veterans participating in the Mental Health Residential Program are treated for their medical needs in the Mental Health Clinic. A daily sick call is provided for these patients.
• Services for homeless veterans and community case management are also provided through the Mental Health Clinic.
• Telemental health services to the five CBOCs and the State Veterans Home of Wyoming are provided through the Mental Health Clinic.
These outpatient services are scheduled from 7:30 am to 4:00 pm, Monday through Friday.
Outpatient Care
Outpatient care for both primary care and mental health needs is available to veterans in the Sheridan VAMC catchment area at the Sheridan facility or any of the five CBOCs.
Primary Care
Our primary care program offers an extensive range of treatments with an emphasis on health care prevention. Read more about our primary care program.
The Primary Care Program provides general adult and geriatric medical care under a primary care model by physicians, nursing staff, and allied healthcare staff. These outpatient services are scheduled from
7:30 am to 4:00 pm, Monday through Friday. The program provides:
• Diagnosis of acute and chronic adult and geriatric medical problems
• Treatment of diagnosed medical problems through pharmacologic means
• Ongoing continuity of care – follow-up of health status of patients receiving care for diagnosed problems
• Preventive health services
• Outpatient diagnostic and therapeutic procedures
• Referral of patients, as needed, for specialty diagnosis and treatment not available at the Sheridan VAMC
