About the Program

The Primary Care Outpatient Program

General adult and geriatric medical care under a primary care model by physicians, physician assistants, nursing staff, and allied healthcare staff. These outpatient services are scheduled from 7:30 am to 4:00 pm, Monday through Friday.
 The program provides:
 • Diagnosis of acute and chronic adult and geriatric medical problems
 • Treatment of diagnosed medical problems through pharmacologic means
 • Ongoing continuity of care – follow-up of health status of patients receiving care for diagnosed problems
 • Preventive health services
 • Outpatient diagnostic and therapeutic procedures
 • Referral of patients, as needed, for specialty diagnosis and treatment not available at the Sheridan VAMC

Inpatient Program

Unit 71 offers inpatient medical care. The unit has 23 acute/subacute beds. The unit provides acute and subacute general medical services. Two negative pressure rooms are located on the unit for the care of patients requiring respiratory isolation.

Community Based Outpatient Clinics (CBOCs)
Both primary medical and mental health services are available at the CBOCs. Those veterans in need of services not available at a particular CBOC are either referred to the Sheridan VAMC, another VA facility within VISN19, or are scheduled locally for fee basis care within the local community. For emergency care, all CBOCs activate the local 911 system and veterans are taken to the local medical facility. Hours of operation are Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 4:30 pm, excluding holidays.
