Sheridan VA Medical Center
Promoting Our Women Warriors Of Wyoming
On May 19, 2012 the Sheridan and Cheyenne Veterans Affairs Medical Centers in partnership with the Wyoming Departments of Veterans of Foreign Wars, the Disabled American Veterans, American Legion and the Wyoming Veterans Commission will host a daylong event for the women of Wyoming who have served in the U.S. Military. The event, Promoting Our Women Warriors Of Wyoming (P.O.W.W.O.W) will be free to all female veterans in Wyoming at the Casper Events Center from 10am to 4pm with doors opening at 9am for check in.
The vision for the event is to gather all female veterans in the state of Wyoming for a day of networking, learning, motivation and inspiration. Through the generosity of a Wyoming foundation, motivational speaker Vernice “FlyGirl” Armour will be the key note speaker. “FlyGirl”, America’s first African-American Female Combat pilot, former Captain in the United States Marine Corps and now a world renowned motivational speaker, will focus her presentation on empowering female veterans to utilize the skills they learned in the military in their personal lives and enrich their communities. Wyoming’s first female Brigadier General, Kathy Wright and Ret. Col. Rita Meyer will also speak at the event. There will be over 20 booths of information, ranging from mental health care to finding a job and hiring Veterans.
In conjunction with the Disabled American Veterans, a shuttle service is being provided. There are several shuttle points throughout the state and event participants are encouraged to contact the DAV in Sheridan (307-675- 3272) or in Cheyenne (307-778-7826 ext. 7137). DAV will shuttle women to Casper for the 10 am opening of the event and after the 4 pm conclusion shuttle them back to their communities.
The goal is for Women Veterans to have an educational and inspirational day, with no financial obligations. This event is FREE, but space is limited and participants need to register at https://powwoww2013.registertoattend.com. For further information regarding the event, female Veterans are asked to contact the Women’s Primary Care Clinic toll free at 1-866-822-6714 ext 3607.
